What does psychological counselling involve?

Why would I seek counselling?

  • At times of difficulty or change – relationship issues, job loss, loss of a family member, separation or divorce, work or business related issues
  • For help with life challenges – physical and mental health conditions, such as depression, anxiety, eating and weight related issues, pain management
  • When you are unsure as to what you need to talk about but just need the opportunity to think about how your life is, and what you might need when you just want things to get better and need to figure out how
  • Adventures in Awareness logoIn addition to addressing mental health concerns, life issues and stressors, psychological therapy may be sought for the purpose of personal growth and development. For services focused upon fostering growth, development and personal expression, we run a program called “Adventures in Awareness”. Please contact us to find out more.

Gibbs Psychology will work with you in a supportive and confidential discussion through which your needs will be identified, and a plan to assist you will be developed together.

We will explore your current concerns, how they are affecting you and the history of how they developed.

The focus of therapy is upon assisting you in the present through the development of skills and coping strategies tailored to your needs.

As such, therapy may involve exercises between sessions, which have been developed between you and your treating therapist.

It also involves ensuring that priority areas are identified and addressed in order to ensure the maximum benefit in a defined period of time.

The number of sessions required varies from person to person and depends upon your individual needs.
